CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - No. 2 Softball clicked on all cylinders Sunday afternoon as Katie Burkhart threw a two-hitter with 10 Ks while Kaitlin Cochran and Caylyn Carlson both went deep for home runs as ASU beat Long Island University 7-0. ASU is now 17-1 on the season headed into next weekend's Wilson/DeMarini Tournament at ASU's Farrington Stadium.

 

ASU tacked on two in the bottom of the first as a lead-off walk to Jessica Mapes was followed by with hits from Michelle Smith and Caylyn Carlson, plating both Mapes and Smith. The Devils added on three more in the third, fourth and fifth, one a long solo shot over center field for Kaitlin Cochran's fifth home run of the season.

 

Caylyn Carlson stepped in during the bottom of the sixth to add another two as she crushed her third home run of the season over center field, plating Kaitlin Cochran as well. Burkhart closed out the game for the Sun Devils allowing only two hits and striking out 10.

 

The 17-1 Sun Devils will now prepare for next weekend's Wilson/DeMarini Tournament at ASU's Farrington Stadium March 3-5. The tournament features UC Santa Barbara, Creighton, Houston, North Florida and Utah Valley State.
