PALO ALTO, Calif. - On the strength of four players scoring three goals each, the No. 7 Arizona State University water polo team picked up its first victory of the season and placed seventh at the Stanford Invitational by defeating No. 20 Indiana, 18-7, Sunday afternoon in Palo Alto, Calif. The Sun Devils now stand 1-3 overall on the year with all three losses coming to Top 10 foes, including the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the nation.

ASU jumped to an early advantage, leading the game, 6-2, after the first quarter before extending its lead to 10-4 at the half. The second half of play opened with the Sun Devils adding another five goals to the Hoosiers' three before posting a 3-0 score in the final quarter of play to win, 18-7.

Katie Hedley, Kim Buck, Addison Doud and Ashley Bower each scored three goals in the contest to lead the offense. Hedley, the program's all-time leading scorer, now has 98 in her career. Doud's performance gave her eight scores in the early going of the season which leads the team.

Also finding the back of the net was Amanda Stepp, who scored twice to tie her for second on the squad in scoring with six with Bower. Stepp, a freshman, enjoyed a productive weekend as she was the lone Sun Devil to score at least one goal in each game, scoring once each in the first and third games while adding two in the second and fourth.

The final goals were scored by Kelly Phelps, Ali Gronow, Bonnie Chapman and Traci Aparicio.

The Sun Devils will take a week off from competition before returning to the road for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest at No. 5 Hawaii on Feb. 18.
