ITHACA, N.Y. - Despite another dominating victory at 157 pounds from Brian Stith, the Arizona State University wrestling team dropped a 38-4 decision to No. 11 Cornell Sunday afternoon inside Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y. The Sun Devils slipped to 5-9 on the year with the loss while the Big Red moved to 2-4 on the season.

The dual opened at 157 pounds where Stith continued his recent streak of dominance, securing a 13-1 major decision victory over Drake Hovis to stake the Sun Devils a 4-0 lead in the team race. The victory for Stith was his ninth in a row and also marked his fifth-consecutive victory by major decision. Stith now stands 17-2 on the year and holds a 105-31 career record with a 51-16 record in dual meets. All told, Stith now is tied for 11th on the all-time dual victory list at ASU with Rod Severn (1983-88) while sitting in a tie for 15th on the career victories list with Eddie Urbano (1982-85).

Stith's dominating victory was short lived, however, as Cameron Smith was pinned in 2:27 of the 165 bout by No. 10 Steve Anceravage to give the hosts a 6-4 team lead, one that they would not relinquish. Alex Pavlenko dropped a 9-3 decision at 174 before Jake Cranford absorbed a 4-1 setback at 184. Jason Trulson lost an 8-2 decision to No. 4 Jerry Rinaldi at 197 before Quinton Pruett fell, 6-2, in the heavyweight bout, giving the Big Red an 18-4 lead.

After and ASU forfeit at 125 pounds made the team score, 24-4, the Sun Devils gave up another six points as Angel Alegre was pinned in 52 seconds by No. 3 Adam Frey at 133 pounds. At 141 pounds, Robert Galvan nearly won his bout, instead falling in a close 10-9 decision to Corey Manson before Chris Remsen lost a 19-3 technical fall to No. 4 Jordan Leen at 149 pounds to close out the dual with the hosts winning, 38-4.

Next up for the Sun Devils is a conference road trip to the Pacific Northwest to take on Oregon and Oregon State. The Sun Devils will take on the Beavers in a 7 p.m. dual in Corvallis on Friday (Jan. 26) before closing out the road trip with a 2 p.m. showdown in Eugene on Sunday (Jan. 28).
