TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University soccer team played its second overtime match in a row as part of the 2006 Heather Farr Kicks Against Breast Cancer Invitational with the Sun Devils recording a 1-1 draw with No. 27 St. Louis Sunday afternoon at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. ASU now stands 2-1-1 overall on the year.
In a physical match that saw 21 fouls called on the Billikens and 20 for the hosts, the Sun Devils came out firing but unable to find the back of the net until the 23:59 mark. Following a foul called on the Billikens, Michelle Deatherage took the free kick and lifted the ball toward the top of the 18-yard box where Lara Kezer jumped into the air and headed the ball past Hannah Koesterer for the 1-0 lead.
But the Sun Devil lead did not last long as the Billikens took the kick off down the field before Susan Frederickson found a cutting Lauren Bozesky who chipped the ball over ASU keeper Kim Bingham at 25:03 to tie the match at one. That would be the only scoring in the match.
Overall, Bingham closed the match with three saves while Alissa Oldenkamp led the offense with four shots while Kyleyn Felts added three attempts.
After playing three consecutive matches at home, the Sun Devils will now hit the road for a trio of matches, including a pair in Las Vegas, Nev., next weekend as they are set to take place in the UNLV Rebel Classic. The Sun Devils will open play Friday at 4:30 p.m. by taking on Denver before closing out the weekend with an 11:00 a.m. match against UCF.
