COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jacquelyn Johnson won the pentathlon and 11 sprinters qualified for the finals of their respective events as the Arizona State University track and field team completed the first of two days of competition at the 16th Air Force Invitational Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The meet is being held inside the Cadet Field House on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy and concludes Saturday.

Johnson, competing in her first indoor pentathlon in nearly two years, won each of the five events to win the multi-event with a score of 3,998 points. Her total, which was good enough to earn her provisional qualifying status for the NCAA Indoor Championships next month, was 433 points ahead of her closest competitor. The 2004 NCAA indoor runner-up won the 60m hurdles (8.51), high jump (1.65m), shot put (11.77m), long jump (5.90m) and the 800m run (2:27.62) en route to the overall victory.

Fellow mutli-event athlete Joshua Kinnaman competed in the men's heptathlon and is the first-day leader following completion of four of the seven events. Kinnaman has scored 3,136 points and leads Brian Walsh of Air Force by 149 points after placing first or second in all four events. Kinnaman won the 60m dash (7.00) and tied for first in the high jump (1.99m) while taking second in the long jump (6.94m) and shot put (12.90m).

On the track for the women, Latoya Imadiyi won the preliminary of the 200m dash in 24.79 while Christina Hardeman placed third (25.21) and Jordan Durham fourth (25.34) with all three advancing to the finals set for Saturday morning. Latosha Wallace won the 400m dash (56.21) while Hardeman was second (56.64), D'Metra Macedon was eighth (59.00) and Shauntel Elcock 12th (60.36) with all advancing to the finals.

On the men's side, Domenik Peterson placed third (21.55) and Kelvin Love Jr., sixth (21.62) in the 200m dash to advance to the finals while Chris Adams won the 400m dash (48.19) and Jimmie Gordon tied for 10th (49.65), allowing both to advance to the finals set for Saturday. In the lone final of the day for the men, Tomas Navarro placed 14th (15.44m) and Andrew Smith 18th (14.79m) in the weight throw.
