TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Juma Kamara scored 18 points to lead Portland State over Arizona State 71-67 Saturday in non-conference play.

Scott Morrison added 16 points and eight rebounds as the Vikings (2-2) held off a second half rally after leading by as much as 18.

Jeff Pendergraph had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Sun Devils (1-2).

Portland State rode a hot start and then allowed Arizona State to get within 52-50 with 11:11 remaining after a 12-0 Sun Devil run. The Sun Devils cut the deficit to 69-67 with 1:35 left after Serge Angounou hit two of three free throws. Morrison hit a free throw with 1:16 but Arizona State failed to convert on its next possession only to have Portland State turn the ball over again.

Christian Polk, who added 20 points for Arizona State, and Derek Glasser each missed one 3-pointer in the final 20 seconds.

The Vikings made nine of their first 12 shots to take a 28-12 lead at the midpoint of the first half. But they missed 10 of their next 16 as Arizona State got within 45-35 at the break.

Portland State outrebounded Arizona State 20-12 in the first half. Kamara had 16 points and four rebounds in the first half. Both of Arizona State's losses are to Big Sky Conference teams.
