FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Arizona State University soccer team opened its 2006 season with a 2-1 exhibition victory over intrastate rival Northern Arizona Thursday night at Lumberjack Stadium in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Sun Devils, featuring a very young roster, fell behind early before scoring twice to claim the lead and eventually the overall win.

The hosts struck first as Tara Cozzetto knocked in a corner kick from Cee Cee Odorfer in third minute of play, claiming a 1-0 lead. The Sun Devils struck back with the equalizer 13 minutes later as Courtney Crane found the back of the net after receiving a pass from freshmen Brittney Doty in the 16th minute. Then, with nearly 32 minutes played, freshman Dante Perea scored the game-winner while sophomore Kylla Sjoman assisted on the tally. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Kim Bingham recorded four saves in the contest.

The Sun Devils are now a little over one week away from their regular season opener as they head to Irvine, Calif., for a 7 p.m. match with UC Irvine on Friday, Aug. 25. Following their opener on the road, the Sun Devils will return home for a 7 p.m. match on Monday, Aug. 28, when they take on Loyola College on `Monday Night Futbol.' All fans wearing football or futbol team apparel will receive a discounted admission of $2 for the match inside Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
