TEMPE, Ariz. - Needing a win to strengthen their bid to host a regional, the Arizona State Sun Devils came up big, beating Cal 13-5 Friday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Devils improve to 34-19, 12-10 in the Pac-10. Colin Curtis had another impressive Friday night performance, going 3-5 with four RBI in the ASU victory. Josh Satow picked up the win for the Devils, upping his record to 4-1. Brandon Morrow took the loss for the Bears, dropping him to 7-4. Brady Martinez picked up his second save of the season.

Cal got on the board first, plating a run in the top of the third to make it 1-0. ASU didn't wait long to respond, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning. After a Colin Curtis single, he came around to score on an Eric Sogard double to right. Sogard would score himself on a passed ball to make it 2-1 Devils.

Arizona State would add three more in the fourth, two coming on a Curtis double to left. Sogard would add another run on an RBI ground out for a 5-1 ASU lead after four. The Sun Devils would break it open in the fifth, scoring eight times to make it a 13-1 edge. Seven Sun Devils reached to start the inning, with every one of them coming around to score before the Bears would record an out. Curtis would add two more RBI on his single through the right side. Ike Davis would close out the scoring barrage with his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field.

Satow went five innings, scattering four hits and allowing only one run to pick up the win. Morrow lasted only 3.1 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits. Morrow was one of five Cal pitchers on the night.

In addition to the four runs knocked in by Colin Curtis, Eric Sogard had three RBI while Davis and Willy Fox each had two. Five Sun Devils had multi-hit games, thanks in large part to the 15 hits the Devils totaled on the night.

The Devils and Bears will do it again tomorrow evening at 6 PM from Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
