TEMPE, Ariz. - The #12 Arizona State Sun Devils defeated the University of Washington Huskies, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark in Tempe. ASU improves to 24-10 on the year, 3-2 in Pac-10 play.

The Sun Devil were anchored offensively by catcher Preston Paramore, who knocked in a career high five runs. Tony Barnette picked up the win in relief, evening his record at 1-1.

Freshman Ike Davis scored the game's first run after leading off the second inning with a triple to center field. CJ Retherford brought Davis home with a perfectly executed bunt singe to the right side, giving ASU a 1-0 lead after two. The Huskies tied the game in the top of the third with a two out double by Junior Curt Rindal.

ASU retook the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Eric Sogard that scored Brett Wallace. Paramore brought home two more with a double down the left field line, giving the Devils a 4-1 lead.

After Washington cut it to 4-2 in the fifth, the Sun Devils struck again. Wallace, who went 3-4 on the day, knocked home Willy Fox with a single up the middle, then scored himself on a Paramore single to left center.

The Huskies cut the lead to one when Matt Hague took Brett Bordes deep to right for a three-run homer to make it 6-5 Sun Devils. The Huskies would tie it up in the top of the seventh on a Curt Rindal solo shot to center.

ASU then answered back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six times to put the game out of reach. Paramore opened the scoring with a two-run double down the right field line. After a passed ball scored Sogard, Matt Hall brought home Paramore with a single up the middle. The Devils would add two more on a two-base error by the UW centerfielder, to take a 12-6 lead at the end of the eighth.

That would be all Tony Barnette would need, as he threw three innings of three hit ball. Barnette also struck out six to pick up the victory.

Five Sun Devils had multi-hit games as ASU rapped out 15 hits against four Husky pitchers.

The Sun Devils and Huskies return to action Sunday for game three of the PAC-10 home opening series. First pitch is at 1 PM.
