Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UCLA starter Dave Huff was magnificent, striking out six Sun Devils in a complete game to help lead the Bruins to a 5-1 victory over the #10 Sun Devils. Arizona State falls to 28-13, 7-4 in the Pac-10. Jeff Urlaub took the loss, as he falls to 5-1 despite allowing only four hits and three runs in six plus innings of work. The Devils could manage only two hits off Huff in the loss.

UCLA scored two in the first off Urlaub, but ASU got one back in the top of the second. Ike Davis started the inning with a single, then moved to second on a CJ Retherford sacrifice. Davis then moved to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on a Brett Wallace RBI single to center.

But that would be all the Devils could muster off of Huff, who improved to 5-2 with the victory. He allowed only two runs in his second straight complete game. From the second inning until the seventh, he set down 14 Sun Devils down in a row until a walk to Davis broke the string. No other Sun Devil would reach base after the walk.

The Bruins added some insurance for Huff in the seventh. After a leadoff single chased Urlaub, Hector Ambriz had a pinch hit RBI double off Tony Barnette that extended the UCLA lead to 3-1. They would score two more off Barnette on a two-out RBI double by Jermaine Curtis and a run scoring single by Chris Jensen to make it 5-1.

ASU and UCLA will play the rubber game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Jackie Robinson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
