LA JOLLA, Calif. - Members of the Arizona State University track and field team competed in the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Friday night in La Jolla, Calif., with three women and three men taking part in the hammer throw. In all, two women record regional qualifying marks in the event on the first of two days of competition in the San Diego area.
For the women, Sarah Stevens led the way as her toss of 62.52m (205-01) placed her fourth overall and second among collegiate entries while Jessica Pressley finished 10th with her regional mark of 55.97m (183-07). The final woman to compete was Sara Shisslak, who placed 16th with a toss of 50.27m (164-11).
On the men's side, Tomas Navarro was the top Arizona State finisher as he took 17th with a mark of 52.76m (173-01) while Andy Haas finished 26th with a mark of 49.27m (161-08). Andrew Smith also competed in the hammer, but did not record a mark.
Action continues through Saturday.
