LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team dropped its second game of a California road swing Saturday afternoon as the defending NCAA Champion and third-ranked Bruins of UCLA downed the visiting Sun Devils, 9-3, in an MPSF contest played on the UCLA campus. The loss, ASU's second in a row, dropped the Sun Devils to 10-5 overall on the season and 2-2 in the MPSF while the Bruins improved to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in the league.
After a scoreless first quarter of action, the Bruins would go on to outscore the Sun Devils, 3-1, in each of the remaining three quarters of play for the victory. Offensively, Rowie Webster continued her hot hand in the scoring column as she netted a pair of scores while Raelyn Ritchie recorded a solo goal. Webster now has 32 goals on the season which is tied for the fourth-most in a rookie campaign and 11th most in a single season overall. She is now five goals shy of tying Katie Hedley for the freshman record of 37.
Despite the loss, Caylinn Wallace put together another solid outing in the cage as the sophomore goalie stopped seven Bruin shots while also recording a game-high three steals.
The Sun Devils conclude their road trip Sunday as they face another Top 5 foe, this time meeting No. 4 Loyola Marymount in an 11 a.m. contest in Los Angeles.
