SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Following a defeat earlier in the day, the No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team rebounded at the Gaucho Invitational as it handed an 11-3 defeat to Brown Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif. The win improved the Sun Devils' record to 7-3 on the season following the defeat of Head Coach Todd Clapper's former program.
After being held to just two goals in its first game of the day against No. 9 San Diego State, the Sun Devils again started off slow as the Bears took an 2-1 lead following one quarter of play. But, the second quarter proved to be the start of ASU's turnaround as the Sun Devils connected on three scores to take a 4-2 lead at the intermission. After out scoring the Bears, 2-1, in the third, the offense came to life again, this time out scoring BU, 5-0, in the fourth.
Ashley Bower led the offensive surge with four goals in the game while Katie Hedley and Rowie Webster each added two scores. Katy Lawlor, Raelyn Ritchie and Lindsay Williams each added single goals in the victory. On the defensive end, Caylinn Wallace recorded nine saves in the game.
The Sun Devils open the second day of action Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. when they face No. 13 UC Irvine.
