SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The No. 9 Arizona State University water polo team opened its weekend at the Gaucho Invitational Saturday morning and dropped a close decision to No. 9 San Diego State, 4-2. The loss sent the Sun Devils to 6-3 on the season.
Following a scoreless first quarter, both teams found the back of the net once to bring the game to intermission tied at one. In the third quarter, the Sun Devils scored again, but the Aztecs added two goals before marking their final goal in the fourth quarter for a 4-2 victory.
Offensively, Addison Doud and Lindsay Williams recorded the lone goals of the game for the Sun Devils while goalie Caylinn Wallace recorded 10 saves in the contest.
With the loss, the Sun Devils will now face Head Coach Todd Clapper's former squad, the Bears of Brown.
