TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's tennis remains undefeated as they swept past Cal Poly 7-0 in a match Sunday morning at the Whiteman Center. The Sun Devils only dropped one doubles match and won all the singles in two sets. The #16 Sun Devils start the season 6-0 for the first time since the 2003 season, when they advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

In the doubles action, the Sun Devils won two of their matches to win the point. Playing at the number two spot, the #34 ranked team of Sabrina Capannolo and Rebecca Rankin defeated Cal Poly's Carol Erickson and Shannon Brady 8-4 to win their match. Ranked 27 nationally, the duo of Kady Pooler and Roxanne Clarke fought off a tough match against Samantha Waller and Danon Brady to earn their victory and the doubles point 9-7. Jessica Leitch and Laila Abdala dropped the only match of the day as they fell 5-8 against Sheila Lewis and Maria Malec.

Giving up only one game, Capannolo soundly defeated Waller 6-0, 6-1 in the number one spot. Capannolo is currently ranked 100 nationally. In her match against Clarke, Cal Poly's Beatty retired due to injury. Clarke earned the match point in the number two spot.

After winning her first set, Pooler trailed 4-1 in her second against Erickson. She came back to win 7-5 and secure her victory in the number three spot. Playing at the number four spot, Wendy Pilecka beat out Cal Poly's Lewis 6-2, 6-3.

Rankin won her match against Malec in two sets also, winning the first one 6-4, and the second 6-0 in the number 5 spot. Playing at the number six spot, Leitch handily defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-2 to secure her victory.

The Sun Devils return to action in two weeks as they take on Pac-10 rival #5 USC Trojans on February 24 at Whiteman Center in Tempe, Ariz.
