PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 16 Arizona State University water polo absorbed its first loss of the season as the No. 6 Golden Bears of California handed the Sun Devils a 14-7 defeat in the teams' second game of the Stanford Invitational Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif. The Sun Devils, who kept the game close for nearly three quarters of play, slipped to 4-1 overall on the year while the Golden Bears improved to 3-1.

In a high scoring contest, Cal jumped out to an early lead and was ahead 6-4 at the intermission. The two teams traded goals in the third quarter with the Golden Bears outscoring the Sun Devils, 4-3, in the quarter to build a 10-7 lead. The final quarter of play saw the Cal offense connect on four more scores while the ASU offense was shut out to bring about the final score, 14-7.

Addison Doud (Fr., Laguna Beach, Calif.) led the team in scoring as she picked up her third hat trick of the season while Katie Hedley (Jr., Lake Forest, Calif.), Rowie Webster (Fr., Melbourne, Australia) and Lindsay Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) each added solo scores. Caylinn Wallace (So., Laguna Hills, Calif.) recorded eight saves in the game.
