Tempe, Ariz. - The Sun Devils made the job look easy as the 2006 Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State, kicked off Friday Night with wins over Syracuse and Nevada.

The Devil defense started off a little slow in their first game against Syracuse, where the Orange jumped out in the first with a quick two runs.

From there on out it was all ASU though as they grabbed a run in the first and batted around in the 2nd inning grabbing six runs as they went.

The rest of the game played out in a familiar fashion for the Devils as they made it look routine with no more than five batters being allowed up after the first inning.

The Devils grabbed two more runs in the 4th off of Katie Cochran's Home Run, and rallied to grab four more runs in the 5th from great base running and a triple from Cochran to end the game early in 5 innings with a final score of 13-2.

In game 2 of the night ASU took on the Wolf Pack of Nevada, where pitcher Katie Burkhart lit up the Pack with nine strikeouts and gave Nevada only one hit on the night.

The Devils started off hot in the second game with a lead-off single from Michelle Smith followed by a Home Run from second baseman, Mindy Cowles.

The Devils tacked on two more runs in the third with hits from Katie Cochran, Kim Zadronzny and Kristen Miller.

From there the Devils remained silent until the sixth inning, where they came out blazing, with a lead off single from Kristen Miller where she was followed by Rhiannon Baca and Jackie Vasquez, both who found their way to first base loading the bases for Michelle Smith.

Smith hit a single to grab a run for the Devils, leaving the bases still loaded as Katie Cochran stepped to bat and cranked a huge blast over right field for a grand slam to end the game early for the Devils with a final score of  9-0 over the Wolf Pack.

The Devils continue play tomorrow in the Kajikawa Classic where they will take on New Mexico at 4:30 p.m. and Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. at Farrington Stadium.
