RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The No. 16 Arizona State University water polo team opened play in the Lancer Invitational Saturday morning and utilized another four-goal scoring performance by one its players to pick up a victory, this time downing Cal State San Bernardino, 15-8. The Sun Devils (2-0, 0-0 MPSF) broke open a 6-5 halftime lead with a seven goal showing in the third quarter to defeat the Coyotes (2-2).

The Sun Devils opened the game with a 3-2 lead at the end of one quarter of play before both teams added three scores in the second stanza to send the game to intermission with ASU on top, 6-5. The Sun Devils then added to their lead as they outscored the Coyotes, 7-2, in the third quarter for a commanding 13-7 lead before again outscoring their opponents, 2-1, in the final quarter of play for the final 15-8 score.

Raelyn Ritchie (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif.) led the offensive charge for the Sun Devils as she netted a season high-tying four goals one day after rookie Addison Doud (Laguna Beach, Calif.) scored four against No. 20 Cal Baptist. Joining Ritchie in the scoring was Kim Buck (So., Lisle, Ill.) with a hat trick and two-goals each from Ashley Bower (Jr., Bondi Beach, Australia) and Rowie Webster (Fr., Melbourne, Australia). Tessa Wyborny (Sr., Walnut Creek, Calif.), Doud, Lindsay Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) and Katie Hedley (Jr., Lake Forest, Calif.) each added one goal.

Kimberlee Stevens (Jr., Lodi, Calif.) also contributed as she drew a 4-meter penalty shot while Doud drew three kick-outs, Katy Lawlor (So., El Segundo, Calif.) drew two and Bower drew one. Defensively, Caylinn Wallace (So., Laguna Hills, Calif.) recorded 10 saves in goal while Bower led the team with four steals.

Arizona State concludes its opening weekend later Saturday as it is set to face CS Bakersfield at 2:45 p.m.
