Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 13th-ranked Oregon State softball team (28-6, 7-0 Pac-10) scored the winning run on a three-base throwing error in the top of the seventh inning as they topped 17th-ranked Arizona State (26-13, 1-6 Pac-10), 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Farrington Stadium.

Oregon State got on the board first again off another home run and a wild pitch by ASU starting pitcher Katie Burkhart (10-7). With one out, Kelly Peterson hit a solo home run over the center field fence. Adrienne Alo then singled to left and moved to second off a hit and run by Mia Longfellow. Cambria Miranda followed with a walk to load the bases. Burkhart then got the second out, but then threw a wild pitch as Alo came home from third for the 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, ASU tied the game off two bases loaded walks. OSU starting pitcher Brianne McGowan (25-2) got into jam as she loaded the bases for designated player Kim Zadrozny. McGowan then walked Zadrozny and also pinch hitter Sharee Zaleski to tie the game.

OSU then took the lead for good in the seventh inning off an ASU throwing error. Sherina Galvan reached first base on an infield hit. Pinch hitter Alana Mendoza then put down a sacrifice bunt to Jen McCard at third, but McCard's throw to second to force Galvan sailed high and wide as it rolled all the way to the center field fence, scoring Galvan from first for a three-base error.

Burkhart took the loss allowing four hits and three runs, two earned with five strikeouts. McGowan went the distance for OSU giving up four hits, two runs, five walks and nine strikeouts. Heidi Knabe wet 1 for 3 to extend her hitting streak to six games.

Up next, the Sun Devils head out on the road to Los Angeles to face UCLA on Friday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis by ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. (PT).
