TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University soccer team received goals from three different players and the defense turned in another solid performance as the Sun Devils rebounded from a tough loss Friday in its conference opener to defeat the visiting Oregon Ducks, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The win brought ASU's record to 6-5-2 on the year and 1-1-0 in the Pac-10 while seeing the Ducks slip to 8-3-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.
Following a scoreless first half of play, the Sun Devil offense turned on the pressure and was rewarded in the 50th minute of play as Lara Kezer (So., Pleasant Hills, Calif.) fired a line shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. After the offense tried to work the ball into the box, Alissa Oldenkamp (So., Chandler, Ariz.) collected a loose ball and passed back to Kezer, who was about 25 yards out near the center of the field, before Kezer recorded her second goal of the season.
Just under six minutes later, the Sun Devils used their speed to get behind the Duck defense and collected their second goal of the contest at the 55:26 mark when Brittany Cooper (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) tallied her four score on the season. Elizabeth Bogus (Sr., Sandy, Utah) carried the ball down the right side and crossed the ball in front of the goal to a wide-open Cooper, who in turn fired toward the net. The ball hit a defender and was redirected into the net, with Cooper earning the score on the own goal.
Bogus, the team's leader in scoring, added to her lead as she added her ninth tally of the year in 61st minute of play. Fellow senior Manya Makoski (Trumbull, Conn.) carried the ball and dribbled through two defenders on the left side and slid a pass through the box where Bogus shot into the top right corner for the goal.
Bogus moved into ninth on a pair of season Top 10 lists for ASU as she sits ninth in both goals scored with nine and points in a season with 23. She also moved into a tie fourth on the all-time assists ledger with 17.
Starting keeper Kim Bingham (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.) recorded her second shut-out of the season as she recorded three saves in 90 minutes of action. Her counterpart, Jessie Chatfield, allowed three goals while making four saves on the day.
Kayla Anderson (Everett, Wash.), a true freshman with the Sun Devils, made her collegiate debut in the closing minutes of the match.
Arizona State hits the road next weekend for a pair of conference matches as the Sun Devils meet Washington State and Washington. The Sun Devils and Cougars meet Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Pullman before ASU and the Huskies close out the weekend with a noon match Sunday in Seattle.
