TEMPE, Ariz. - Behind five saves by junior goalkeeper Kim Bingham, the Arizona State University soccer team played No. 25 Stanford to a 0-0 tie Friday night at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, the first scoreless contest ASU has played in during its 10 year existence. The Sun Devils now stand 8-5-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the Pac-10 while the Cardinal are now 8-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the league following the match.

ASU, nearing the end of its 10th season as a varsity program, had never seen any of its matches end without either team scoring a goal. In the 13 other ties the Sun Devils have recorded in their history, 10 have ended 1-1 with two ending 2-2 and one ending 3-3.

Both Bingham and her counterpart Erica Holland were tested throughout the evening with both making strong saves and clearances. Bingham stopped two hard shots and disrupted several breakaway attempts while Holland, who recorded eight saves on the night, made two diving stops, including one near the end of regulation, to preserve the tie. The shut out recorded was the fourth on the season for Bingham.

Offensively, Elizabeth Bogus and Manya Makoski combined for two-thirds of the Sun Devils' 21 shots as each recorded seven on the night. The Cardinal saw seven different players take two shots to pace the team.

The Sun Devils close out the home portion of their home slate this weekend when No. 10 California visits for a 1 p.m. match Sunday. ASU's senior class of Bogus, Kelley Bond, Brittany Cooper, Stephanie Ebner, Juanita Lawson, Makoski and Haley Stein will be honored prior to the match at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
