FUKUSHIMA, Japan- Led by senior Alissa Kuczka, the Arizona State University women's golf team remains in second place after the second round of the Topy Cup, being held Tuesday-Thursday, Sept. 6-8 in Fukushima, Japan.
Tohoku Fukushi, one of the Japanese teams competing in the event, took over the lead in the tournament after carding a 13-over 301 for a two-round total of 603 (302-301). ASU remained in second place after the second round with a two-day total of 611 (300-311). The University of Washington is in third place (295-317=612) followed by Senshu (311-307=618) and Nihon (312-325=637).
Kuczka continues to lead the Sun Devils individually and is tied for third place at three-over 147 (71-76). She trails M. Saiki of Tohoku Fukushi by five strokes (72-70).
Junior Tiffany Tavee stands in a tie for eighth place at seven-over 151 (74-77), while sophomore Brooke Todare moved up four spots into a tie for 16th place (78-78=156). Freshman Jennifer Osborn (81-80) and junior Charmaine Erasmus (77-84) are both tied for 25th at 17-over 161, while junior Lindsay Anderson, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 32nd (87-82=169).
The Topy Cup concludes on Thursday at the par 72, 6,036-yard Tanagura Country Club.
In other Sun Devil news, freshman Azahara Muñoz, who hails from Malaga, Spain, lost her singles match to Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla., 6 & 4, at the 2005 PING Junior Solheim Cup in Westfield, Ind. The United States team reclaimed the PING Junior Solheim Cup from the Europeans by claiming 10 of 12 points during singles matches.
Following this week's action, Arizona State will travel to Franklin, Tenn., for the Mason Rudolph Championship Sept. 23-25. Vanderbilt University will host the tournament at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
