TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- The No. 7 Arizona Wildcats scored in all but two innings and benefited from a season-high six Arizona State errors to defeat the No. 17 Sun Devils 16-7 Sunday afternoon in front of 3,521 fans at Winkles Field at Packard Stadium.

ASU took the series opener 6-2 Saturday night and the two teams will meet in rubber-match Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on FSN Arizona with Dave Sitton and Ken Phelps calling all the action.

The Sun Devils fall to 30-19 overall and move into fourth place in the Pac-10 with a 11-6 record, one-half game behind USC (12-6). Arizona won for the sixth time in the last seven contests to improve to 33-16 overall and remained in second in the league with a 13-4 mark. The victory also gave the Wildcats a 3-1 edge against ASU this season, securing their first season series victory over the Sun Devils since 1992.

ASU senior starting pitcher Jason Urquidez (Simi Valley, Calif.) was the victim of four early errors and couldn't get on track by giving up seven runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings of work. He allowed four hits and walked two to fall to 7-4 on the season. Five Sun Devil relievers combined to allow 14 hits and nine runs over the final 5.1 innings.

Arizona junior starter Kevin Guyette scattered seven hits and gave up five runs (four earned) in 5.1 innings to improve to 9-4 on the season. The Scottsdale Chaparral product struck out five and walked four before giving way to the bullpen in the sixth inning. Freshman left-hander Eric Berger notched his first career save giving up two runs and two hits over the final 3.2 innings.

The Sun Devils were out-hit 18-9 and for the second straight game did not record an extra base hit. Nine different players recorded a hit, with junior right fielder Travis Buck (1-for-4) extending his hitting streak to 13 games. Freshman reserve catcher Austin Stockfisch (Scottsdale, Ariz.) went 1-for-2 with a pinch-hit two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Stockfisch extended his hitting streak to seven games with the single and is hitting .750 (9-for-12) on the season. Freshman shortstop Andrew Romine (Lake Forest, Calif.) also had a hit to extend his hitting streak to a season-high-tying five games.

Arizona had every starter record at least one hit and scored in every inning except the first and seventh frames. The top five hitters in the lineup all registered multi-hit games and combined to go 11-for-25 (.444). Senior right fielder Jeff Van Houten went 2-for-5 with five RBI, belting a three-run home run in the fourth and a two-run shot in the top of the ninth. Sophomore shortstop Jason Donald added three hits, including a pair of doubles and a triple.

Game Notes: The Sun Devils have announced junior left-hander Brett Bordes as Monday's starting pitcher... Arizona will throw senior right-hander Sean Rierson... ASU's six errors are a season high, bettering a pair of five-error games earlier in the season... Jeff Larish, Andrew Romine and Seth Dhaenens each made two errors to tie individual season highs for the Sun Devils... Larish had a string of 288 consecutive flawless fielding chances over a span of 34 games snapped.
