LUBBOCK, Texas - Led by junior Alissa Kuczka and freshman Louise Stahle, the Arizona State University women's golf team stands in seventh place after the first round of the NCAA Central Regional, being held May 5-7 at the par 72, 6,328-yard Jerry S. Rawls Course.
The Sun Devils carded an eight-over 296 on Thursday and are in seventh place, six strokes off the lead of Texas (290). Missouri and New Mexico were tied for second after the first round at three-over 291 followed by Texas A&M (293), Auburn (294), Purdue (295) and ASU (296).
Individually, Kuczka and Stahle led the Sun Devils, each carding even-par 72s on Thursday to tie for eighth. Senior Erin Tone and sophomore Tiffany Tavee are tied for 50th after turning in four-over 76s in the first round, while sophomore Charmaine Erasmus is tied for 92nd at eight-over 80.
Auburn's Diana Ramage held the individual lead after shooting a four-under 68 in Thursday's first round.
Play at the NCAA Central Regional continues on Friday and Saturday with tee times starting each day at 7:30 a.m. Central Time (5:30 a.m. in Arizona). As the No. 2 seed in the Central Regional, the Sun Devils will tee off at 12:40 a.m. CT (10:40 a.m. Arizona) on Friday. Live scoring is available at www.golfstatresults.com.
The top eight teams from each of the three regionals (East, West, Central) will qualify for the 2005 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, which will be hosted by Oregon State University on May 17-20 at the Meadows Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore.
