Junior left-hander Brett Bordes (Mesa, Ariz.) picked up the win out of the bullpen giving up three hits and two runs in 3.1 innings to improve to 3-3 on the season. He allowed six walks and four runs in recording the no-decision.

Cal senior starting pitcher Eric Dworkis was saddled with the loss giving up 10 hits and six runs in four innings to fall to 3-5 on the season. The Gonzaga transfer walked three and struck out two. Relievers Jeremy Burchett and Aaron Swick combined to hold the Sun Devils scoreless over the final three innings.

The Sun Devils struck first with four two-out runs in the top of the second inning. After singles by Dhaenens and Sferra, Laguna started the rally with a single to left field to plate the first run of the inning. Buck followed with a run-scoring double down the right field line and Gosewisch followed with a two-run double to the right field gap to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Golden Bears responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the second to cut the lead to 4-2. Freshman second baseman Josh Satin led off the frame with a solo home run to left field. Left fielder Allen Craig doubled down the left field line, stole third base and scored on a groundout by designated hitter James Holder.

California pulled even in the bottom of the third on a two-run, two-out single to center field by Craig to score Mike Van Winden and Brennan Bosch. The Golden Bears threatened again in the fourth putting a pair of runners in scoring position, but Bordes came out of the bullpen to get a groundout and keep the game tied.

ASU pulled ahead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Hooft led off the inning with a solo home run to left field for his first homer as a Sun Devil. After a double by Dhaenens to send Dworkis from the game, ASU tacked on two more runs off reliever Alex Trafton. Buck singled in a run with two outs and Gosewisch followed with a run-scoring single through the left side of the infield.

The Sun Devils added two more runs in each the sixth and seventh inning to extend the lead to 11-4. ASU scored in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Joe Persichina (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and a two-out single up the middle by Sferra. A pair of leadoff walks to Buck and Gosewisch came into score on a wild pitch to account for both runs in the seventh.
