TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State freshman center fielder J.J. Sferra and junior right fielder Travis Buck each recorded four hits to lead the No. 20 Sun Devils to a commanding 16-2 victory over UCLA Saturday evening at Winkles Field at Packard Stadium.

The Sun Devils secured their third Pac-10 series victory of the year to improve to 27-15 overall and remained in a tie for second place in league race with USC at 8-3. After a 6-9 start, ASU has won 21 of its last 27 games, including a string of 11 straight at Packard Stadium. UCLA falls to 8-27 overall and winless in league play at 0-8.

Buck (Richland, Wash.) went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and has now recorded six straight games with two or more hits. Sferra (Phoenix, Ariz.) continued his torrid streak at the play, notching a career-high four hits (4-for-5) and also added two RBI. Sferra is batting .438 (14-for-32) in nine Pac-10 games.

Senior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch (2-for-5), sophomore second baseman Seth Dhaenens (2-for-3, 2 R) and sophomore designated hitter Zechry Zinicola (2-for-5, 2 RBI) also added multi-hit games as the Sun Devils out-hit the Bruins 18-7. Dhaenens (Chandler, Ariz.) extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Freshman reserve catcher Austin Stockfisch (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had a pinch-hit, RBI single to record a hit in his seventh consecutive at-bat and is now 7-for-8 (.875) on the season.

Senior right-handed pitcher Jason Urquidez (Simi Valley, Calif.) scattered six hits and two runs in six innings to earn the win. He struck out five and walked three to improve to 6-3 this season and 18-6 in his career. Junior lefty Brett Bordes (Mesa, Ariz.) tossed three innings of near-perfect relief, giving up one hit and striking out four to earn his second save of the year.

The Bruins totaled as many errors (7) as hits in the contest while dropping its 23rd game in the last 24 contests. Center fielder Josh Roenicke went 3-for-4 and right fielder Chris Jensen hit his third home run of the season. Starting pitcher Bryan Beck gave up 10 hits and seven runs (five earned) in five innings to suffer the loss to fall to 0-7 on the year.

The Bruins and Sun Devils will complete the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Packard Stadium. Sophomore right-hander Pat Bresnehan (3-3, 4.42 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Sun Devils. UCLA has not announced a starting pitcher.
