TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Arizona State junior starting pitcher Erik Averill tossed five scoreless innings to record his fourth straight decision and five players recorded multi-hit games to lead the No. 24 Sun Devils to a commanding 13-1 victory over Wright State University in non-conference action Friday night at Winkles Field at Packard Stadium.

The Sun Devils recorded their third straight win and have now won 13 of their last 17 games to improve to 19-13 overall. Wright State lost for only the third time in the last 10 games to fall to 10-11 on the season.

Averill (Orange, Calif.) recorded the win with five shutout innings to improve to 6-2 on the season. The left-hander scattered five singles, struck out five and did not walk a batter to win his fourth straight decision. Senior right-hander Ty Marotz (Crystal Lake, Ill.) gave up one unearned run in two innings and freshman lefty Josh Satow (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scattered two hits in two scoreless frames.

Wright State starting pitcher Kyle Kearcher (2-1) was roughed up for 10 hits and nine runs (eight earned) in three and a third innings to record the loss.

The Sun Devils out-hit the Raiders 16-11 with all 19 active position players seeing action in the contest. Redshirt freshman Rocky Laguna (Yuma, Ariz.) went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI to lead the balanced offensive attack. Sophomore first baseman Zechry Zinicola (2-for-2, 2 RBI), sophomore left fielder Colin Curtis (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), senior designated hitter Joey Hooft (2-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI) and freshman center fielder J.J. Sferra (2-for-2) also added multi-hit games. Sophomore second baseman Seth Dhaenens (Chandler, Ariz.) hit a two-run home run as part of the four-run second inning for his second homer of the season.

After Averill stranded the bases loaded in the top of the second inning, the Sun Devils struck for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the early lead. Hooft (Reno, Nev.) started the rally with a one-out triple down the right field line to score Curtis (Issaquah, Wash.) from first base. Dhaenens followed with a two-run line home run over the right field fence and Laguna (Yuma, Ariz.) extended the lead to 4-0 with a run-scoring single to right field.

The Sun Devils added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0. ASU recorded five hits and stole five bases in the inning to take the commanding lead. Senior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Laguna, freshman shortstop Andrew Romine (Lake Forest, Calif.) and Hooft all tabbed run-scoring singles in the inning.

ASU added another run in the seventh on a single by Curtis and two more on a two-run single by Zinicola (San Bernadino, Calif.) in the bottom of the eight.

Wright State scored its lone run in the top of the sixth inning on a single to center field by first baseman Paul Majestic. Center fielder Justin Wilson went 4-for-5 and Majestic (2-for-4) and catcher Bryan Vickers (2-for-3) accounted for eight of the Raiders' 11 hits.

The three-game non-conference series continues Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Winkles Field at Packard Stadium. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive the first 10 cards of the limited edition 2005 ASU baseball card set. Reigning Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week Pat Bresnehan (2-2, 3.76 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound against Wright State right-hander Chris Snyder (1-3, 6.35 ERA).

Game Notes: Sophomore second baseman Seth Dhaenens hit his second career home run with a two-run shot to right field in the bottom of the second inning... redshirt freshman Rocky Laguna extended his hitting streak to a career-high-tying four games... Tuffy Gosewisch (5 games) and J.J. Sferra (3 games) also extended their respective hitting streaks... reserve freshman catcher Austin Stockfisch singled in his only at-bat and has now recorded a hit in six consecutive at-bats... Stockfisch is 6-for-7 (.857) on the season... the Sun Devils tied a season high with six stolen bases, led by three from Rocky Laguna... Andrew Romine also recorded a career high two stolen bases.
