TEMPE, Ariz. - The Daktronics Gaucho Invitational concluded Sunday afternoon in Santa Barbara, Calif., with the No. 18 Arizona State University water polo team finishing 17th in the 23-team field with its 6-3 upset of No. 14 Cal State Northridge. Five Sun Devils scored goals in the contest to help the team win its third game in a row and improve to 4-5 on the season.

In a close contest, the Sun Devils took an early 1-0 lead following the first quarter of play before breaking the game open with four goals in the second stanza for a 5-2 lead at the intermission. After each team netted one goal apiece in the third quarter, neither scored in the fourth to give ASU the 6-3 victory.

Offensively, Adriane Mota (Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) led the way with two goals scored while Kim Buck (Fr., Lisle, Ill.), Ashley Bower (So., Bondi Beach, Australia), Raelyn Ritchie (So., Newport Beach, Calif.) and Kimberlee Stevens (Jr., Lodi, Calif.) each added one goal apiece.

The Sun Devils return to action next weekend with a pair of road games to open the conference season. Saturday, ASU will travel to Berkeley, Calif., for a noon contest with No. 7 California before heading to Stockton, Calif., for a rematch with the Tigers.
