SOMIS, Calif. - Led by a pair of top-five finishes by sophomore Alissa Kuczka and freshman Tiffany Tavee, the Arizona State women's golf team tied for fourth place at the 2004 Pac-10 Championships, held Monday-Wednesday at the par 72, 6,405-yard Saticoy Country Club.

The Sun Devils improved on their second-round score by six strokes, firing a 18-over 306 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for fourth with USC with a three-day total of 928 (312-310-306). UCLA never trailed during the tournament en route to victory at 902 (308-297-297). Taking second place was California who moved up from third with a total of 920. Arizona placed third at 923 followed by ASU and USC.

Charlotte Mayorkas clinched the Pac-10 individual championship, firing a final-round one-over 73 for a tournament total 218 (74-71-73). Her performance was two shots better than teammate Hannah Jun, who was fresh off of a course-record two-under 70 set on Tuesday. Jun concluded the tournament with a three-over 75 to finish second at 220.

For ASU, Kuczka carded a final-round 75 with a three-day total of 224 (76-73-75) to earn fourth place, while Tavee tied for fifth with nine-over total of 225 (74-76-75). It marked the first time that two Sun Devils earned top-five finishes at the Pac-10 Championships since 1998 when Kellee Booth took fourth and Grace Park and Jeanne-Marie Busuttil tied for fifth.

Both Kuczka and Tavee earned honorable-mention All-Pac-10 honors for their efforts.

Other final scorers for Arizona State were junior Erin Tone who tied for 28th with 237 (81-77-79). Freshman Charmaine Erasmus moved up one spot to finish in a tie for 37th at 242 (79-84-79), while fellow freshman Lindsay Anderson took 51st at 257 (86-86-85).

Arizona State now will await selection to one of the three NCAA Regionals (East, West and Central). A total of 63 teams will qualify for regionals with the top eight teams in each region advancing to the NCAA Championships. Stanford will play host the West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course, Illinois State will host the Central Regional at the University Golf Course in Normal, Ill., and Stetson University and the Central Florida Sports Commission will host the East Regional at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Auburn will host the 2004 NCAA Championships May 18-21 at the Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala.
