TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Washington freshman starting pitcher Tim Lincecum struck out eight and allowed only one run over seven innings to lift the Huskies to a 11-1 victory over No. 8 Arizona State Sun Devils Friday night in front of 3,336 at Packard Stadium.
Arizona State falls to 20-6 overall and has lost three of four Pac-10 games to fall to 1-3 in the conference action. Washington improved to 14-6-1 overall and 1-0 in Pac-10 play.
Lincecum, who shared Washington High School Player of the Year honors last year with ASU freshman center fielder Colin Curtis, fanned eight and limited the Devils to one run to improve to 3-0 on the year. Senior left-hander Trent Baysinger sealed the victory with two scoreless frames.
Arizona State starter Jason Urquidez (Simi Valley, Calif.) recorded the loss in his second straight outing to fall to 6-2 on the year. He gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits in four and a third innings. He walked four and struck out six.
UW entered the game leading the Pac-10 in homers and added three more to their season total (39 on the season). Sophomore All-American shortstop Brent Lillibridge was 3-for-6 with three RBI to lead the Huskies at the plate.
ASU was out-hit 13-7 in the contest and received multi-hit games from freshman third baseman Seth Dhaenens (2-for-3, 2B, R) and junior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch (2-for-3). Junior shortstop Dustin Pedroia went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
The Huskies built an early 3-0 lead after the first two innings. Designated hitter Matt Lane plated a run with a two-out single to right field to score Greg Isaacson. Third baseman Matt Otness extended the lead with a two-run homer in the second, his team-leading sixth of the year.
Washington added a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead. Center fielder Taylor Johnson plated a run with a sacrifice fly to deep center field and Lillibridge added another with a two-out double to right field.
After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, ASU finally put a run on the board in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore right fielder Travis Buck.
Left fielder Zach Clem extended the UW lead to six runs with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. Isaacson led off with a single and scored on Clem's sixth homer of the year. UW added another run in the eighth and three more in the ninth. Lillibridge plated two of his three runs with a double down the left field line.
