SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Six Sun Devils scored in double figures as the Arizona State women's basketball team cruised to a 102-30 victory over Prairie View A&M Saturday afternoon in the second game of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic at Texas-San Antonio's Convocation Center.
ASU's 102 points marked the most for the team since the Sun Devils turned in a 118-56 victory over Long Island on Dec. 20, 1997, while ASU tied its school record for fewest points given up in a game. ASU won both of its games in San Antonio and improved to 4-1, while Prairie View A&M fell to 1-2 on the season.
For the Sun Devils, senior Carrie Buckner and sophomore Emily Westerberg were both named to the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic all-tournament team.
The Sun Devils jumped out to a 12-point lead early with eight players scoring to give ASU a 16-4 lead with 13:05 to play. Prairie View cut the lead to 10, but ASU scored the next 14 points to take a 32-8 lead with 6:35 left in the first half, including back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Reagan Pariseau. Senior Kylan Loney knocked down two of her three first-half treys in the final six minutes of the half as the Sun Devils outscored the Lady Panthers 18-6 to take a 52-14 halftime lead.
Pariseau and Loney each had 11 points in the first half, each knocking down three three-pointers. The Sun Devils got balanced scoring with 10 players getting on the board en route to their season high for scoring in a half. ASU shot 59.4 percent from the field and outrebounded Prairie View A&M 21-6 with sophomore Alisha Godette and senior Betsy Boardman each pulling down four boards in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, Arizona State outscored Prairie View A&M 12-4 over the first four minutes and shot 62.5 percent from the field as the Sun Devils cruised to the 102-30 victory.
Junior Kristen Kovesdy and Pariseau each had 14 points to lead the team. Kovesdy knocked down 7-of-9 field goal attempts, while Pariseau went 4-of-5 from three-point land en route to her career-best 14 points. Westerberg had 12 points, all in the second half, while Loney and Buckner each chipped in with 11 points.
Junior Amy Denson had a career-best seven assists, while senior Lauren Stagg tied her career best with six assists and turned in a team-best three steals. The Sun Devils outrebounded the Lady Panthers 43-9 in the victory and tied the school record with nine three-pointers made, including four by Pariseau and three by Loney.
For Prairie View A&M, sophomore guard Angel Smith had 10 points.
Arizona State returns home next weekend for the ASU Holiday Classic Dec. 3-4 at Wells Fargo Arena. Winners of their own tournament in each of the last three seasons, the Sun Devils will take on Alabama State at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by Gonzaga vs. Nevada. On Saturday, the consolation game starts at 4:30 p.m. followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
