LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Arizona State women's golf team won its first tournament in four years, capturing the title at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate, held Oct. 4-5 at the par 72, 6,319-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course.
The Sun Devils turned in the best round of the day, carding an 11-over 299 on Tuesday to earn the nine-stroke victory and their first tournament victory since winning the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in the spring of 2000. Arizona State finished with a three-round total of 893 (297-297-299), while Texas Tech finished second (902) and Baylor (904), New Mexico State (918) and Kansas (921) rounded out the top five.
Freshman Louis Stahle was the top individual for the Sun Devils, earning runner-up honors for the second time in two collegiate events with a tie for second place. Stahle carded a one-over 73 on Tuesday for a three-round total of two-over 218 (71-74-73) and tied for second with New Mexico State's Erin Kato.
Sophomore Tiffany Tavee turned in the best finish of her young career, tying for fourth with a six-over 222 (77-71-74), while sophomore Charmaine Erasmus also had her best showing as a Sun Devil with a seventh-place finish (74-75-75=224).
Rounding out the Sun Devil lineup were junior Alissa Kuczka who tied for 23rd (76-77-77=230) and freshman Brooke Todare who tied for 67th (76-82-85=243).
Texas Tech's Kim Kolb took home medalist honors at the tournament with a three-round total of two-under 214 (73-69-72).
Arizona State returns to action Oct. 15-17, traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate.
