TEMPE, Ariz. -- Top ranked Washington defeated the Sun Devils in straight sets Friday (30-26, 30-22, 30-21) at Wells Fargo Arena in front of a crowd of 541. With the win, the Huskies improved to 14-0 overall and 6-0 in Pac-10 play. ASU fell to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the Pac-10.
Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Morton (Bonsall, Calif.) led ASU with 18 kills. The sophomore hit a career-high .359 with only four hitting errors on 39 swings while notching her 12th double-digit kill match of hte year. She added a service aces and a solo block to finish with a match high 20.0 points.
The Sun Devils dominated the Huskies at the net, out-blocking UW 12.0 to 4.0. Freshman middle blocker Colette Meek (Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada) had six blocks to raise her team-leading season average to 1.47 blocks per game. Freshman setter Rachel Mittelstaedt (Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman outside hitter Kristin Trayser (Crystal Lake, Ill.) each added four blocks.
The Huskies had three players with double digits in kills and were led by freshman outside hitter Christal Morrison (Puyallup, Wash.) with 18. Junior outside hitter Brie Hagerty (Defiance, Ohio) and senior outside hitter Kaitlin Leck (Carson City, Nev.) added 17 and 14 kills respectively. Pac-10 assist leader Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash.) led all players with 52 assists and also added seven digs. Junior libero Candace Lee (Eugene, Ore.) tallied a match-high 24 digs and Morrison added 15.
ASU returns to action Saturday night when they play host to Washington State at Wells Fargo Arena at 7 p.m.
