TEMPE, Ariz. - The UC Santa Barbara women¹s soccer team (5-4) scored three goals in the final 36 minutes of play and cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting 18th-ranked Arizona State (3-4), Friday night at Harder Stadium.

Senior forward Randi Johns scored from about ten yards out after a cross from freshman midfielder Kathleen Prieto, to break the scoreless tie and give the Gauchos a 1-0 lead 54:05 into the match. The goal was Johns¹ second of the season.

UCSB made it 2-0 at 78:11. Sophomore forward Chandi Bickford hit a long cross from the right corner and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Steinriede drove one from point-blank range that was blocked out in front by Sun Devil goalkeeper Kim Bingham. Gaucho sophomore Allie Kueny, however, pounced on the rebound and drove it into the lower left part of the goal for her second score of the match.

Bickford did the damage alone for UCSB¹s final goal. With just over three minutes remaining, Arizona State sent Bingham over the midfield stripe to take a free kick. She did so, but the Gauchos blocked the kick and the ball deflected to Bickford who was streaking up the center of the field. A back-pedaling Bingham forced Bickford to dribble in about 50 yards. Bingham set herself, but Bickford pulled-up just inside the penalty box and drove one into the left side of the goal.

Despite giving-up three goals, Bingham kept Arizona State in the match with nine saves. UCSB goalkeeper Jamie Considine had four saves to post her second shutout of the season. The Gaucho defense limited the Sun Devils to just eight shots, only four of which were on frame.

Up next, the Devils head over to Malibu to face No. 22 Pepperdine on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
