TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 15 Arizona State water polo team finished the UC Davis Shootout Sunday with a close 3-1 loss to No. 17 UC San Diego to finish in third-place in the 24th annual event in Davis, Calif. Katie Davis (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) netted the only goal of the contest for the Sun Devils (6-6, 0-0 MPSF) to push her goal-scoring streak to 12 games in a row.

UCSD jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first quarter before adding a second goal in the opening minutes of the second stanza. With 22 seconds remaining in the first half of play, Davis scored to bring the Sun Devils to within one goal of the Tritons. But UCSD answered back with their third goal to open the third quarter to close out the scoring as both teams could not find the back of the net again.

Jennifer Sanderson (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) made seven saves between the pipes for the Sun Devils while she also added an assist to Davis' goal. As a team, ASU had two six-on-five opportunities, but was unable to score on either try.

Following three weekends of four games each, Arizona State will have a much smaller schedule this weekend when it plays host to No. 10 Hawaii at 2 p.m. Friday at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe. The game will be the Sun Devils' first conference game as they battle the Rainbow Wahine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) contest.
