TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 17 Arizona State water polo team concluded its opening weekend of competition Sunday at the Michigan Invitational with an 8-3 upset of No. 14 UC San Diego. The victory came over their highest ranked opponent in the history of the program, bettering the 6-5 victory the Sun Devils scored over No. 15 UC Irvine last season. The win also evened ASU's record on the year at 2-2 while UCSD slipped to 1-3.

Katie Davis (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) ran her scoring streak to four games in a row by scoring two goals in the contest. For the year, Davis, the team's lone senior, has netted seven goals. She was joined by freshman Raelyn Ritchie (Newport Beach, Calif.) for the team lead in scoring in the contest with two goals. Ritchie's tallies are the first of her collegiate career.

Adriane Mota (So., Long Beach, Calif.), Heather Rempfer (So., Lodi, Calif.), Kimberlee Stevens (So., Lodi, Calif.) and Tessa Wyborny (So., Walnut Creek, Calif.) each scored for the Sun Devils giving the team six different goal scorers for the second time this year.

Following a week off from competition, the Sun Devils return to the road to play in the UC San Diego Tritan Invitational, Feb. 7-8. ASU's opponents and times of games will be announced closer to the competition.
