TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second day in a row, the No. 17 Arizona State water polo suffered a defeat at the hands of a Top 10 team, this time falling to No. 10 Michigan, 8-5, at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sunday. A trio of Sun Devils netted goals in the contest, but it was not enough as the team slipped to 1-2 on the season. The Wolverines moved to 3-0 on the year.
Much like the Sun Devils' loss to No. 9 Indiana the day before, ASU jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following the first quarter, but found themselves tied at three at the intermission. The difference in the game came in the third stanza when the Wolverines outscored the Sun Devils, 2-0, to take a 5-3 lead into the final quarter. In the final stanza, UM netted three scores to ASU's two goals to win the contest, 8-5.
Katie Davis (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) netted a pair of goals in the contest to bring her current scoring streak to three games in a row with at least one goal (five overall). Kimberlee Stevens (So., Lodi, Calif.) also added two goals while Elaine Bentley (So., San Digeo, Calif.) tallied one.
Following a week off from competition, the Sun Devils return to the road to play in the UC San Diego Tritan Invitational, Feb. 7-8. ASU's opponents and times of games will be announced closer to the competition.
