TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore midfielder Brittany Cooper's goal late in the first half held up as the 13th-ranked Arizona State soccer team (3-1) shutout Rutgers (3-1), 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the Notre Dame Classic Tournament in South Bend, Indiana.

In the 43rd minute of action, Stephanie Ebner made a lead pass to a breaking Cooper who tallied the goal from close in for the eventual game-winner. In a scoring change from Friday night's match against Notre Dame, Cooper, not Stephanie Peel, was credited for the sole ASU goal. After scoring both Sun Devil goals over the weekend, Cooper has now scored in three of the four games this season and now leads the team with three goals and seven points.

ASU goalkeeper Kelly Fitzgerald went the full 90 minutes, making a season-high six saves and posting her second shutout of the year. Rutgers' Robyn Jones recorded five saves. Elizabeth Bogus led the Devils with four shots (two on goal), while Cooper had three shots. Rutgers' Kelly Evans led all players with five shots.

Both teams played close throughout the game with Rutgers edging ASU on shots 14-12. Each team also had three corner kicks.

Up next, the Devils return to Tempe to open their home schedule against Vanderbilt on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
