RENO, Nev. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Juliana Escobar and Natalie Harris each recorded 14 kills to lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a 3-0 victory over Gonzaga Friday evening in the first match of the SBC/Sands Regency Volleyball Classic. The Devils improved to 2-2 with the 30-23, 30-22, 30-20 victory.
Escobar (Brasilia, Brazil) also had 10 digs and led the team with three service aces for her second double-double of the year and 18th of her career. Harris (Tempe, Ariz.) continued her solid play with 14 kills on a scorching .462 (14-2-26) hitting percentage while also notching one service ace.
Freshman Katie Wilson (Fullerton, Calif.) had her best match as a Sun Devil with a career-high eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage. Sophomore Sarah Watkins also contributed nine kills on a career-high .375 (9-3-16) hitting percentage. ASU out-hit the Bulldogs .316 to .129 in the match to earn its first three-game victory of the season. Senior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led all players with a season-high 32 assists. Senior libero Courtney Blocher (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had a match-high 14 digs.
The Sun Devils continue play in the tournament hosted by the University of Nevada on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against the University of Tennessee. ASU will also play the host Wolf Pack Saturday night at 7 p.m.
