TEMPE, Ariz. - Three different Sun Devil players' tallied goals as the 19th-ranked Arizona State soccer team (4-1-1) posted their third shutout of the year by defeating San Francisco (3-4-0), 3-0, Friday night at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe. ASU controlled the tempo for nearly the entire match as they out-shot USF 13-10.
The Devils posted their first goal on a breakaway from Manya Makoski in the 25th minute of action, her second on the year. Leveled with the USF defense, Makoski then separated herself from the pack and shot the ball from 5 yards out on the right wing pass the USF goalkeeper.
In the second half of play, ASU got another breakaway going when Levise Robertson found Courtney Crane sprinting towards the goal. USF's goalkeeper Jennifer Orantes came out of the box to get the ball, but Crane reached it first and shot it over Orantes from about 22 yards out to tally the 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute. The goal was Crane's third of the season.
The Devils then sealed the match in the 78th minute when Elizabeth Bogus recorded her third goal of the year as she shot the ball into the lower left corner pass an extended Orantes. Brittany Cooper was also credited with the assist.
ASU's defense kept the Dons at bay as goalkeeper Kelly Fitzgerald made only two saves on the night. Orantes finished the night with three saves. USF's Chelsea Hunt led all players with five shots, two on goal.
The Devils are back in action on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. when the Kentucky Wildcats pay a visit to Tempe.
