DALLAS, Texas (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Senior outside hitter Kim Mehlhorn led all players with 12 kills to lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a 3-0 win over Tennessee-Chattanooga Friday afternoon to open the SMU Radisson Volleyball Classic.

ASU, playing without All-Pac-10 outside hitter Juliana Escobar (Brasilia, Brazil) who is out with knee and back injuries, improved to 3-4 in the young season with the victory. UTC dropped to 4-5 with the loss.

Mehlhorn (Tempe, Ariz.) sparked the ASU offense to a .279 hitting percentage with her third straight match with double digits in kills. Senior middle blocker Mandy Stephens (Napa, Calif.) was second with 11 total points, adding eight kills and two blocks to ASU's winning totals. Freshman outside hitter Nicole Morton (Bonsall, Calif.) filled in nicely for Escobar, recording career highs with seven kills and five digs. Senior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led ASU with 27 assists and senior libero Courtney Blocher (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led all players with 14 digs.

The Sun Devils continue tournament play Saturday with a pair of matches. ASU will take on Stephen F. Austin at 10 a.m. (CST) and then conclude the busy day at 7 p.m. (CST) with a match against tournament host SMU. Going into tomorrow's doubleheader, ASU is 0-4 on Saturday's this season.
