Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State (29-22; 3-10 Pac-10) scored eight runs, six unearned off 12 hits to defeat 12th-ranked Arizona State (28-17; 5-8 Pac-10), 8-4, Friday in Corvallis. The Sun Devils had a 3-0 lead until the bottom of the third when OSU went ahead off back-to-back home runs.

ASU got on the board first off two hits. Kristin Farber opened with a walk off OSU pitcher Amy Klever (7-6), and advanced to second on a groundout. Kara Brun followed with a single to left, moving Farber to third. Phelan Wright then singled to left as well to drive in Farber for the 1-0 lead. OSU then got the run back in the bottom of the first off of a sacrifice fly to center field by Shelly Prochaska.

In the second, ASU tacked on one more run. Jen McCard and Adriana Garcia each walked and then advanced to second and third on a pass ball. Farber then grounded out to second base to plate McCard for the 2-1 edge.

The Devils tallied another run in the third off two more hits. Brun opened the inning with a single to right filed and moved to second on a sacrifice by Wright. After Jennifer Forner grounded out to second, advancing Brun to third, Cheryl Evans worked the count to 2-2 and singled the next pitch to left field to drive in Brun.

Oregon State then scored four times on two home runs with two outs. With two runners on and two outs, Prochaska ground the ball to McCard at second, but she misplayed the grounder for the error to put two runners on and to keep the Beavers in the inning. The next OSU batter, Kelly Peterson then ripped a three-run home run over the left field fence to go ahead 4-3. On the next pitch from Desiree Serrano (17-11), Vanessa Iapala also hit a home run to left field to push the lead to 5-3. Evans the replaced Serrano to record the third out.

ASU got one run back in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. Wright singled to center and then went to second when Forner walked. Evans then doubled down the left field line to score Wright. ASU almost tied the game when Forner tried to score from third on a fielder's choice to short, but was tagged out at the plate.

However, the Beavers would score three more runs on four hits and another ASU error to seal the win. Peterson singled to right to drive in the first run, and then Steph Adams singled to left to drive in the second run. Shannon Sorg followed with another single to drive in the final run and to extend the lead to the final 8-4.

Up next, the Sun Devils will travel over to Eugene to take on No. 20 Oregon on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
