The No. 5 University of Texas men's golf team fired a 36-hole total of 20-under-par 556 (277-279) on Monday to hold a four-stroke lead after the opening day of the 37th annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate at Austin Country Club (par 72; 6,906 yards). The Longhorns are four strokes ahead of Oklahoma State (560), while Arizona State (573) and UNLV are tied for third in the 18-team field. UT's team score of 556 tied the tournament's 36-hole team record, set by Houston in 1984.
Second-round play, which was suspended due to darkness with six teams still on the course, will be resumed on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:15 a.m. (Central). The final 18 holes are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
