NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The No. 15 seed Arizona State women's golf team fell to No. 2 seed Auburn this afternoon in the first round of the inaugural Hooters Women's Collegiate Match Play Championship at the Barefoot Resort. Sophomore Sara Jones (Valencia, Calif.) and freshman Tiffany Tavee (Gilbert, Ariz.) each won their respective matches, but it wasn't enough to send the Sun Devils into the winners' bracket.

Jones defeated the Tigers' Leah Hart 2 and 1 while Tavee finished one up on Maria Martinez. ASU's other competitors at the event are sophomore Alissa Kuczka (Phoenix, Ariz.), junior Josefin Gustafsson (Falkoping, Sweden) and junior Erin Tone (Gilbert, Ariz.). Kuczka was defeated 7 and 6 by Auburn's Nicole Hage, Gustafsson was narrowly defeated as Jennifer Head finished one up in their matchup, and Tone fell 2 and 1 to Kingsley Barrett.

The Sun Devils are now in the consolation bracket where they are matched up with No. 7 seed California, with those matches having already begun. ASU freshman Charmaine Erasmus (Bradenton, Fla.) is three up on Cal's Anna Temple through 12 holes while Tavee is one up on Sophia Sheridan through 11. Gustafsson is all square with Claire Dury after playing 11 holes while Jones is one back of Danielle Nash through 11 holes and Kuczka finds herself four down behind Sarah Huarte. Play against California will resume tomorrow.
