TEMPE, Ariz. - University of San Diego senior forward Brenna Mullen gathered a long pass from teammate Marie Claude-Henry and drilled a shot past diving Sun Devil goalkeeper Kelly Fitzgerald to allow San Diego (6-2-3) a 2-1 double-overtime victory over No. 16 Arizona State (6-2-2), Sunday afternoon in San Diego. It's the first Sun Devil loss in the past seven matches.
In the game's 36th minute, Fitzgerald was unable to gather a shot by USD junior Brooke Roby as Torero senior Alexis Obeji headed in her third goal of the season, giving San Diego an early 1-0 advantage.
The Sun Devils got on the scoreboard 12 minutes into the second half when freshman Levise Robertson, who recorded her second goal of the season, ricocheted a shot off a Torero defender and then off the right post to even the score at one. Patrice Feulner was credited with the assist.
Arizona State out-shot San Diego 12-11 and 8-3 in the second half. San Diego also collected 17 fouls in the match to ASU's nine. The Devils posted three corner kicks in the second overtime period, but could not come up with the game-winning tally.
Up next, the Devils will begin Pac-10 Conference play, hosting California on Friday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.
