KONA, Hawai'i -- The Arizona State Baseball team recorded an 18-5 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader to record a sweep in the six-game series with the Vulcans. The Sun Devils had 18 hits in the seven-inning game and ran their record to 6-0 on the season.
Pitching in relief, senior Robbie McClellan earned the win for the Sun Devils and recorded three strikeouts in two innings. Senior starting pitcher Bryce Kartler recorded four strikeouts in two scoreless innings on the mound for ASU.
At the plate, sophomore Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-2 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, dating back to last season. Junior Mike Guerrero, starting his first game in a Sun Devil uniform, went 4-for-5 and had three RBIs. Guerrero is now 8-for-10 on the season.
Junior centerfielder Rodney Allen hit a three-run homer and had five RBIs while going 2-for-5.
The Sun Devils open their home season next weekend when they host Tony Gwynn's San Diego State Aztecs for a three game series at Packard Stadium. Friday's game begins at 7 p.m. while games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon begin at 1 p.m.
