KONA, Hawai'i -- The Arizona State Baseball team registered a 16-0 victory over the Hawai'i-Hilo Vulcans in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon. The win, in five innings, moved the Sun Devils to 5-0 on the year.
Sophomore pitcher Mark Sopko earned the victory, giving up only one hit and striking out two in three innings of work. Senior transfer Ben Thurmond threw two scoreless innings in his ASU debut.
The Sun Devils had several heroes at the plate, as they outhit the Vulcans 17-2. Junior Andre Ethier went 4-for-4, with two RBIs and two runs scored, while sophomore Jeff Larish went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a three-run homer. Sophomore Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-4, both hits were doubles, and now has six doubles on the year. Six players had multi-hit games for the Sun Devils.
