TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Natalie Harris and Juliana Escobar each recorded double-doubles, but Arizona State couldn't escape upset as the Ohio Bobcats defeated the Sun Devils 3-1 during the second day of the Sun Devil Volleyball Classic at Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 21-30, 30-32, 30-21, 20-30.
The Sun Devils couldn't ride the momentum of a four-game win over Utah to open the season Friday night, falling to 1-1 in the young season. Ohio also evened its 2003 season record at 1-1 after falling to San Diego 3-1 in the tournament opener Friday.
The Sun Devils were their own worst enemy committing 24 service errors. ASU also hit .138 for the match. Harris (Tempe, Ariz.) led all players with 15 kills and recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 digs. Harris also added three service aces and two blocks. Escobar (Brasilia, Brazil) backed up her 24-kill performance against Utah with 13 more kills and had 14 digs. Senior libero Courtney Blocher (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led all players with 15 digs. Senior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led the Devils with 27 assists.
The Bobcats were led by the 13 kills each from senior outside hitter Lindsay Judice (Spotsylvania, Va.) and Laura Hageman (Cleveland, Ohio). Ohio also had 12 service aces, led by the three each from junior setter Briana Adamovsky (Solon, Ohio) and Katie Smith (Downers Grove, Ill.). Adamovsky led all players with 33 assists.
The Sun Devils will look to rebound tonight with a 7 p.m. match against undefeated San Diego (2-0). Ohio will play Utah (0-2) at 5 p.m.
