WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Arizona State women's golf team carded a 23-over par 311 Wednesday to climb four spots to 10th after the second round of the NCAA Championships, being held May 20-23 on the par 72, 6,225-yard Kampen Course at Purdue University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
The 25th-ranked Sun Devils are in 10th place with a two-round total of 55-over par 631 (320-311) and stand 11 strokes out of the top five. USC continues to lead the tournament with a two-round total of 32-over 608 (305-303), while Oklahoma State trails by three strokes at 613 (309-302). Pepperdine (613), Ohio State (616), Florida (620) and Auburn (620) round out the top five.
Senior Blair O'Neal turned in the low round of the day for the Sun Devils for the second consecutive day and is tied for eighth with a two-round total of seven over 151 (76-75). Senior Ga?lle Truet shot a four-over 76 on Wednesday to climb from 47th to a tie for 29th with a two-day total of 156 (80-76). Other Sun Devils include sophomore Erin Tone who is tied for 94th (79-86=156), senior Melanie Hunt who is tied for 108th (85-82=167), and freshman Alissa Kuczka who is in 119th place (93-78=171).
Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman took sole possession of the individual lead with a two-over 74 on Wednesday for a two-day total of three-over 147 (73-74). Thurman holds a one-stroke lead over Washington State's Kim Welch (76-72=148).
The NCAA Championships continue Thursday and Friday with 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m. Central Daylight Time (6 a.m. Arizona Time) from No. 1 and No. 10 tees each day. Arizona State tees off at hole No. 10 at 12:20 p.m. CDT (10:20 a.m. Arizona Time) on Thursday, while tee times for Friday's final round will be based on results. The top four scores from each five-person team will count toward the team score.
