TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington starting pitcher Tia Bollinger had a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning before Kristin Farber broke it up with an infield single, and Kara Brun followed with a single to right field to account for the only two hits for 15th-ranked Arizona State (30-21; 7-12 Pac-10) as they fell to eighth-ranked Washington (41-13-1; 8-11 Pac-10), 2-0 Friday night.
Both of UW's runs were unearned, coming the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth Dena Tyson hit a solid drive to left field, but Jennifer Forner misplayed the ball, allowing the first run to score. In the fifth, Kristen Rivera also singled to left and was again misplayed allowing the second run to score from second base.
ASU had its best chance in the seventh with one out when Farber singled and then advanced to third on Brun's single to right. But Cheryl Evans then hit a low, hard line drive that UW first baseman snagged and then tagged the bag to double up Brun for the final out.
UW scattered eight hits, six off ASU starter Ashley Werschky (9-5), who pitched the first 4 innings before Desiree Serrano came in for the final 3 innings of work. Bollinger (23-9) finished the evening allowing two hits with six strikeouts.
Up next, Arizona State finishes its final home games of the year with a doubleheader against No. 2 UCLA on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
